David Levasseur is a convinced non-conformist. Maison A. Levasseur is located in Cuchéry (Vallée de la Marne) and was founded by David's grandfather in the 1940s and takes its name from his father Albert. Currently it produces a little more than 30,000 bottles per year, resulting from only 4.2 hectares of vineyards distributed in 18 parcels of land around the villages of Cuchéry, Fleury-la-Rivière and Châtillon-sur- Marne. These are organically cultivated and certified by HVE - Haute Valeur Environnementale - for their high environmental value.
Vallée de la Marne is a vital source of Meunier and it is on this grape variety that David mainly relies for most of his wines. In the 1990s, his father Albert gradually passed on his know-how and his heritage and so in 2003 David got his independence. Very ambitiously, he was able to follow the viticulture and the management of the small Maison, but also his own vision of Champagne: a wine that above all arouses encounters and awakens the senses.
Making his own vineyard his "playground", he decided to purchase other plots in Châtillon-sur-Marne. In the cellar, modern equipment was introduced to participate in a refined mastery of the wines (e.g. thermoregulated stainless steel vats and new press). Growing up surrounded by traditional viticulture, David Levasseur was able to combine these methods with the precision of technology.
Today, sustainable viticulture is optimized by the computerized monitoring of every single parcel and in the vineyards partial grassing is in place with the use of organic fertilizers (biological) necessary to better take care of all the estate vineyards. All plots are vinified separately in order to offer Champagnes which represent as much as possible their Terroir of origin. Champagnes by A. Levasseur will awaken your senses: taste them and enjoy their flavors!
