Bonnet-Ponson

The story of Champagne Bonnet-Ponson has its roots in the village of Chamery, in the Petite Montagne de Reims, where the Bonnet family has been active since 1862. Grégoire Bonnet was among the first vignerons in the area to vinify his own grapes, anticipating by more than a century the philosophy of the récoltant-manipulant, based on production autonomy and the direct expression of the terroir. With the marriage of André Bonnet and Monique Ponson, the two families joined together, giving life to the current name of the Domaine, today led by Cyril Bonnet, representative of the sixth generation.

The Domaine covers about 10 hectares, spread across the Premier Crus of Chamery, Vrigny, Coulommes-la-Montagne, and the Grand Cru of Verzenay. The pedological mosaic of the Petite Montagne de Reims, with its clay, limestone, and sandy soils, offers a range of expressions that enrich the character of the wines. The vineyards, cultivated according to the principles of certified organic farming, include Pinot Noir, Meunier, Chardonnay, and a small share of cépages oubliés, mainly Petit Meslier, an ancient and rare variety that adds aromatic complexity.

The philosophy of Bonnet-Ponson is based on a deep respect for soil life and vineyard sustainability, with natural winemaking practices that enhance the identity of each parcel. In the cellar, oak barrels, stainless steel, and concrete tanks alternate depending on the desired profile, while a significant part of the annual production is devoted to vins de réserve perpétuelle, to preserve continuity and gustatory memory. The aging process, long and patient, takes place with minimal intervention and without any pursuit of standardization, favoring expressive purity that reflects the artisanal soul of the Domaine.

Today, Cyril Bonnet leads the transition toward a modern and conscious vision of Champagne, where tradition and innovation coexist in balance. The production, limited to about 70,000 bottles per year, represents a refined synthesis of technical precision, environmental awareness, and fidelity to the terroir of the Petite Montagne de Reims, confirming Bonnet-Ponson as one of the most authentic and consistent producers in the contemporary Champagne landscape.
