Following the phylloxera crisis, the Barbichon and Prélat families replanted their vineyards in the villages of Gyé-sur-Seine and Celles-sur-Ource respectively, in the heart of the Côte des Bar. Shortly afterwards, the meeting between Robert Barbichon and Maryvonne Prélat laid the foundations for the birth of Champagnes Robert Barbichon. Today, the fourth generation, Thomas and Maxime, cultivates the approximately 6 hectares of vineyards.
The Domaine owns about 9 hectares - divided into seventeen plots - spread over five villages around Gyé-sur-Seine on clay-limestone soils and with an average age of the vineyard of thirty-five years. Thomas and Maxime, now fully responsible for both the vineyards and the winemaking, do everything possible to ensure that their wines express the magic of Terroir and the elegance of the vines: 74% Pinot Noir, 12% Chardonnay, 6% Pinot Blanc and 8% Meunier.
Since 2010, the Domaine has been certified in Organic Farming and from the 2012 harvest onwards, some of the wines have been produced in Biodynamic Farming. Robert Barbichon is among the best new-generation biodynamic producers in the Côte des Bar, with an annual production of around 35,000 bottles for Champagnes of exceptional clarity, structure and intensity.
