For more than 5 generations, the Coutier family has been producing its Champagnes in the Grand Cru of Ambonnay, in the south of the Montagne de Reims. Owners of some of the best plots, around 40 to be precise, with an average age of around 38 years, today the Coutier family cultivates 9.30 hectares of vines, a third of which were planted with Chardonnay by Henri Coutier back in 1946.
Having been recognised as the first Chardonnay growers in the Ambonnay village, today the Coutiers produce an elegant and well-balanced Blanc de Blancs that pays tribute to the magnificent terroir beloved homeland of Pinot Noir, which in this area manifests itself in one of its greatest expressions with mineral and structured wines. Today, Domaine R.H. Coutier is managed by Nathalie with her son Antoine.
Rooted in tradition, their philosophy is based on the principle of 'as little as possible', with intervention reduced to a minimum both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The aim is to make distinctive Champagnes that reflect the terroir and are firmly integrated with the principles of sustainable viticulture. Indeed, the Domaine has been in organic conversion since 2020.
