Soutiran is a small family Maison, founded in 1969 by Gérard Soutiran, located in the village of Ambonnay, in the southern part of the Montagne de Reims. In 1969, Alain, the eldest of Gérard's 4 children, created his own establishment with his wife Roselyne. They set about developing their business and creating their own range of Champagne under the name Soutiran-Pelletier.
In 1989, after studying economics, Valérie, Alain's eldest daughter, joined the family business. She took over the management and developed the business under the brand name Champagne Soutiran. In 1999, Valérie's husband Patrick Renaux also joined the company. The Maison is now run by Patrick and Valerie Renaux-Soutiran.
The family currently owns six hectares of land in Ambonnay, an area of excellence for the production of powerful and gourmet wines, and only purchases a modest quantity of grapes from vignerons, and owners of vineyards classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru, also operating within the Montagne de Reims.
The vinification style enhances the muscular characteristics of the villages of origin; the opulence of the Ambonnay terroir is contained through a moderate use of wood and dosages. In the glass, the impact is formidable: the wines (which are strongly gastronomic) have a typical trait and are the best example of how terroir gives wine its strength. Production currently stands at around 120,000 bottles.
