Aurélien Lurquin

Aurélien Lurquin is a sought-after and authentic Vigneron who works his parcels near the village of Romery, along the Marne river, in the Vallée de la Marne area. His training as a winemaker comes from his grandfather, a winemaker for several decades at Maison Lanson, a doctorate in Oenology and several experiences in Chile and Burgundy. In 2007 he started working on his project to produce Champagne from the 5 plots of land owned - a total of 2.5 hectares - divided into 40% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, 24% Meunier and 1% Petit Meslier. 

The first vintages were dedicated only to the production of still wine Côteaux Champenois. In 2012 he obtained the Organic and Biodynamic certification and the very limited yields in the vineyard forced him to sell the majority of his grapes to what is perhaps the medium-size Maison that is most committed to Biodynamics: Leclerc-Briant. This allowed him to obtain the necessary resources to develop his ambitious project, to structure his small winery and to follow and better understand his own vineyards. Over the years, he has increasingly reduced the quantity of grapes for sale to produce his wines, especially from 2017 onwards.

 All the vineyards are worked with the use of horses, without herbicides, chemical or systemic fertilizers. A traditional 2000 kg press is used for crushing which allows him to work each plot individually; vinification takes place in cement and barrels with spontaneous fermentation only and the use of indigenous yeasts. A philosophy that certainly represents his lifestyle for a production of rare, sensitive and exciting Champagne! 

Despite his simplicity and humility, Aurélien has become one of the great stars of the region and his current production - about 2,000 bottles divided into only 2 Cuvées - goes sold-out in a very short time thanks to fans and researchers of authentic and rare Organic Champagnes. Aurélien Lurquin's Champagnes are of another dimension, incredibly rich in energy.
