Coteaux Champenois Rousseaux-Batteux
Verzenay Blanc "Le Moulin" 2023
The Coteaux Champenois Verzenay Blanc Le Moulin by Rousseaux-Batteux is a rare white interpretation from one of the most celebrated villages of the Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Noir has always reigned and Chardonnay instead finds a surprising and precious expression. The old vines of the eponymous lieu-dit, planted in 1972 within the Grand Cru territory of Verzenay, give life to a still wine of great character, able to convey with authenticity the depth of the chalky soils and the vocation of this outstanding terroir.
This edition, from the 2023 harvest, is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes handled with an approach that favours the purity and integrity of the fruit. After a gentle pressing and 24 hours of settling, the must undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in oak casks, while vinification and maturation continue in barrique for 18 months, with no filtration before bottling.
On tasting, Le Moulin 2023 reveals an elegant and deep profile, with aromas of white-fleshed fruit intertwined with citrus accents and delicate toasty nuances. On the palate it is taut and mineral, supported by a fine structure and a precise balance between freshness and substance, with a long persistence that faithfully reflects the identity of Chardonnay and its terroir. Production in a limited run of 305 numbered bottles.
