Rouge "Les Champs Brûlés" 2022

The Coteaux Champenois Rouge Les Champs Brûlés by Rousseaux-Batteux expresses the rarest and most intimate side of the Montagne de Reims, that of the still red wines of Champagne, an age-old tradition that only a few growers still keep alive today with passion and deep respect for the land. The grapes come from the parcel of the same name (lieu-dit), a plot of old vines planted in 1964 near the village of Verzy, classified Grand Cru, where Pinot Noir achieves ripeness, depth and a tension that give the wine a clear and recognisable sense of place.

This edition, from the 2022 harvest, is made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes and follows a vinification designed to extract colour, fruit and structure with great delicacy, beginning with a five-day cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by ten days of punching down and pumping over. After malolactic fermentation the wine matures for twenty months in barrique and is bottled with a light final filtration, which preserves its expressive integrity.

On tasting, Les Champs Brûlés 2022 reveals an intense and complex profile, with aromas of ripe small red berries intertwined with spicy notes and elegant hints of fine oak. On the palate it is structured and enveloping, supported by silky tannins and a harmonious balance between substance and finesse that leads to an elegant and lingering finish. Production in a limited run of 200 numbered bottles.
