Champagne Rousseaux-Batteux
Le Mont 2021
The Champagne Le Mont by Rousseaux-Batteux captures the essence of a small parcel in the Grand Cru of Louvois, set on the southern coteaux of the Montagne de Reims. This rare and authentic Blanc de Noirs comes from the Pinot Noir vines of the lieu-dit Le Mont, planted in 1961 on just 0.23 hectares. They are farmed with a respectful, artisanal approach, with cover cropping and soil work by draught horse, to preserve the vineyard’s natural balance and bring out the truest expression of the terroir.
This edition, Vintage 2021, is vinified and fermented in fût de chêne, where the wine also matures. It is bottled without filtration or cold stabilisation to keep its natural integrity intact, which can leave a light deposit that does not affect its quality. After tirage, it rests on the lees for a long 36 months before dégorgement. A final dosage of less than 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, heightens its purity and tension.
On tasting, Le Mont 2021 shows a deep, structured profile, with notes of small red berries, spicy touches and a subtle mineral vein that define its character. On the palate it is broad and harmonious, supported by a delicate tannic texture and refined balance, leading to a long and elegant finish. Production in a limited, numbered run of 950 bottles.
