Les Grandes Voyettes 2021
The Champagne Les Grandes Voyettes by Rousseaux-Batteux precisely conveys the power and finesse of Verzenay, a Grand Cru village and emblem of the northern coteaux of the Montagne de Reims, where chalky soils give the wines depth, tension and great longevity. The wine takes its name from the lieu-dit of the same name, a small 0.45-hectare plot divided into three parcels, where Chardonnay vines planted in 2013 grow alongside two parcels of Pinot Noir dating back to 1953 and 1991, a rare viticultural heritage that unites memory and continuity.
This edition,Vintage 2021, shows a prevalence of Pinot Noir grapes alongside Chardonnay grapes, in keeping with the proportions of the plot. Vinification and fermentation take place in fûts de chêne, where the wine matures for about 10 months before being bottled without filtration or cold stabilisation, a choice that may lead to the formation of a light natural deposit, a sign of authenticity that in no way affects quality. After tirage, the wine ages for 36 months on the lees, while the final dosage of less than 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, preserves the pure expression of the vintage.
On tasting, Les Grandes Voyettes 2021 reveals an elegant and deep profile, in which notes of ripe citrus and white-fleshed fruit intertwine with delicate floral hints, enriched by toasty nuances and a subtle mineral streak. On the palate it is taut and precise, supported by a harmonious structure and a fine, creamy perlage, leading to a long, persistent finish that conveys all the energy of the Verzenay Grand Cru. Production in a limited run of 2,202 numbered bottles.
