Hommage à Camille "Le Mesnil-su-Oger" 2020
The Coteaux Champenois Blanc Hommage à Camille by Louis Roederer comes to life in the Volibarts lieu-dit, near the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, there in the Côte des Blancs where Chardonnay reaches one of its most crystalline expressions. Conceived as a tribute to Camille Olry-Roederer, a bold figure long devoted to the still wines of Champagne, this rare white translates the chalky matrix of the terroir into finesse, tension and aromatic depth.
This edition, from the 2020 harvest, is born from Chardonnay grapes alone, picked in a single parcel, and undergoes vinification and maturation carried out 77% in cement tanks, to preserve purity and drive, and the remaining 23% in new barriques that bring structure and breadth. Ageing continues for around 14 months before bottling, in the name of the utmost fidelity to the fruit.
On tasting, Camille Blanc 2020 reveals a precise, pure nose, with warm notes of grain and dried fruit that accompany ripe, juicy fruits such as melon and pear, wrapped in a delicate, lightly honeyed floral touch. On the palate it is intense, concentrated and at once fresh, with candied citrus and a juicy, almost oily texture that closes on chalky, iodine notes, upheld by a fine tannic structure and an aromatic length of rare precision, powerful and vibrant at the same time. Production in a limited run of just 2,505 individually numbered bottles.
