Coteaux Champenois Nowack
Coteaux Meunier Blanc "Fontinette" 2018
The Coteaux Champenois Blanc Fontinette by Nowack is a rare still white that comes to life in the eponymous lieu-dit of Vandières, on the Rive Droite of the Vallée de la Marne, where Meunier finds one of its most authentic expressions. From a historic vineyard with a south-east exposure, farmed with the utmost respect for living soils through mechanical tillage, cover cropping between the rows and natural preparations, emerges a wine that sincerely translates the direct minerality and saline character of this terroir.
This edition, born of the sunny 2018 harvest, comes from Meunier grapes alone, gently harvested and slowly pressed to obtain a clear must, in the spirit of a still Blanc de Noirs. Vinification and maturation take place in oak barrels with spontaneous fermentations from indigenous yeasts and natural malolactic, followed by a long maturation before bottling by gravity, without filtration or added sulphites.
On tasting, Blanc Fontinette 2018 shows a pale gold hue and opens on a crisp picture of ripe apple and fresh citrus, with aeration gradually releasing wet stone and a light brioche nuance lent by its time in oak. On the palate the attack is direct and precise, wrapped in a silky texture that stretches over a deep salinity and an ever-lively mineral tension, leading to a finish of great balance and remarkable persistence.
