Coteaux Champenois Geoffroy
Blanc Réserve Perpétuelle 70/22
The Côteaux Champenois Blanc Réserve Perpétuelle by Geoffroy comes to life in the historic homeland of Champagne's still wines, a region celebrated for its sparkling bottles yet capable of safeguarding an ancient and rare tradition of still wines. As the expression of an artisanal philosophy grounded in respect for the terroir and in the savoir-faire handed down from generation to generation, this white translates the chalky identity of the Vallée de la Marne into a wine of uncommon depth, where the layering of vintages becomes the guiding thread of a winemaking story made of memory, patience and continual evolution over time.
This RP 70/22 edition comes from a réserve perpétuelle begun in 1970 and carried through to the 2022 harvest, expressing itself mainly through Chardonnay grapes, although other Champagne varieties such as Pinot Blanc may at times join in within a perpetual blending system akin to the solera. Vinification and maturation take place in wooden fûts, where each year a portion of new wine refreshes and enriches the body of earlier vintages, weaving together more than fifty years of harvests into a single layered substance. This extended ageing in wood builds an ample and profound body, lending the wine the stability and richness that arise from the long dialogue between different vintages held together in the same cask.
On tasting, the Réserve Perpétuelle 70/22 reveals a golden robe, luminous and bright, that introduces a profile of great elegance and breadth. The structure is rich and enveloping, run through by a fine acidity that balances notes of ripe fruit and toasted hazelnut, alongside a marked minerality that sculpts its profile. The whole unfolds with composure, sustained by a fresh backbone that offsets the generosity of the material, while the persistence lengthens over nuances of dried fruit, honey and a woody finish that remains finely interwoven with the saline breath of the terroir.
