Meunier Rouge 2017
The Coteaux Champenois Rouge Meunier 2017 is born from the meeting of Thibault Legrand (Domaine Legrand-Latour) and Flavien Nowack, two winemakers and childhood friends united by the same faith in Meunier and the same free spirit on the Rive Droite of the Vallée de la Marne. From this four-handed dialogue, out of the clay-limestone soils of Fleury-la-Rivière and Vandières, emerges a still red wine designed to reveal finesse and drive rather than power, a sincere tribute to the emblematic grape of this terroir.
This edition, from the 2017 harvest, relies on Meunier grapes alone, picked and selected by hand with the utmost care, so as to keep only the healthy, fully ripe bunches. Vinification and maturation are conceived to highlight finesse over power, with spontaneous fermentations started by indigenous yeasts and a slow ageing that safeguards its fine texture and freshness, restoring a taut and juicy profile.
On tasting, Rouge Meunier 2017 opens on a fragrant bouquet of fresh cherry and just-picked redcurrant, brushed by a light spicy note that lights up its youthful, luminous character. On the palate it stands out for a supple, precise texture, sustained by fine tannins and a vibrant freshness that lends flow and drive to the red fruit, leading to a savoury finish of rare drinkability, delicate and beautifully balanced, always in the name of finesse rather than power.
