Coteaux Champenois André Heucq
Blanc Vieilles Vignes parcelle le Bout de la Ville 2022
The Coteaux Champenois Blanc Le Bout de la Ville by André Heucq offers an unexpected and fascinating reading of Meunier, the emblematic grape variety of Cuisles and the Vallée de la Marne, here vinified as a white wine to reveal its purity, finesse and sense of place. The grapes come from a single parcel, planted with vines around 50 years old on average and rooted in silty clay soils rich in illite, a rare green clay that gives the wines depth and mineral tension. Certified organic farming, respect for the soil and minimal intervention guide a project that reveals the brightest and most surprising side of Meunier.
This edition, 2022 harvest, comes from a warm and sunny year, marked by a dry summer and an early harvest that brought healthy, ripe and generous grapes to the cellar, combining richness and freshness. Made entirely from Meunier grapes vinified as a white wine, it begins with a gentle whole-bunch pressing to preserve the clarity of the must, followed by vinification and maturation entirely in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, before bottling without fining or filtration.
On tasting, this Coteaux Champenois Blanc shows a bright straw-yellow colour with golden highlights and a fine, layered nose recalling pear, yellow apple and ripe citrus, enriched by hints of white flowers, fresh hazelnut and delicate toasty notes from the oak. On the palate it reveals a harmonious and enveloping structure, supported by vibrant freshness and a silky texture, with a savoury, mineral touch that brings energy and depth. The finish is long and refined, with returns of white fruit and chalky notes that close in an elegant balance between fullness and tension.
