Les Hauts Clos 2020
The Champagne Les Hauts Clos by Georges Remy takes its name from the lieu-dit that holds it, a plot planted in 1960 close to the Grand Cru village of Bouzy, in the Montagne de Reims. It is a renowned site, where Pinot Noir finds one of its most sincere voices, able to combine intensity and restraint, and where now old vines dig deep into a chalky soil that gives back tension and definition. From this narrow piece of land comes a Blanc de Noirs of elegant character, conceived as a faithful portrait of a single terroir rather than as an exercise in style.
This edition, Vintage 2020, was vinified and matured for 10 months in fût de chêne, a passage that widens the texture of the wine while leaving its original drive untouched. After the tirage comes a rest of at least 54 months on the lees, a long span of time that builds an aromatic complexity of remarkable depth. At dégorgement the wine is left with no final dosage, in a Brut Nature style, protecting an absolutely pure and recognisable reading of the fruit.
On tasting, Les Hauts Clos 2020 reveals a precise and vibrant profile, with aromas of ripe red fruit, citrus and subtle toasted notes. On the palate freshness and minerality interweave with shades of dried fruit, supporting a firm and elegant structure that unfolds with great ease. The persistence is long and refined, closing on a clear finale that confirms the character of this plot. Production in a limited run of 902 bottles.
