Cœur de Bacchus 2013

The Champagne Cœur de Bacchus by Jean Vesselle is a Blanc de Noirs born as a homage to Bacchus, the god of the vine and of wine, and chosen as the emblem of the Domaine of Bouzy. This rare cuvée comes to life in the terroir of Bouzy, a Grand Cru of the Montagne de Reims where Pinot Noir reigns supreme, expressing with power and elegance the soul of a chalky soil capable of bestowing tension, depth and rare aromatic intensity. Each bottle, corked and tied with string according to an ancient method, is wrapped in an illustrated microfibre scarf that retraces its story through key dates, weather patterns and the symbols of the Domaine. Completing this refined packaging, which turns the wine into a true textile memory of the year, are the original cork closure used during the prise de mousse and the dedicated little scissors for cutting the string.

This edition, Vintage 2013, tells the story of a late and splendidly luminous year that shaped a Pinot Noir of remarkable tension and depth. Vinification and maturation take place in large wooden foudres for around six months. After tirage, carried out "sur bouchon liège", a closure that encourages a natural micro-oxygenation capable of shaping its texture and complexity, more than ten years of ageing on its own lees follow before dégorgement. The final dosage, below 3.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, keeps the purity of the fruit perfectly intact.

On tasting, Cœur de Bacchus 2013 highlights its taut, deep and vibrant profile, in which Bouzy Pinot Noir offers substance, nobility and persistence without losing freshness. On the palate it shows itself taut, deep and of rare persistence, supported by a saline structure and an incisive minerality that amplify its breadth, leading to a long, coherent finish, an authentic expression of a great terroir and an extraordinary vintage. Production in a limited run of 1,706 numbered bottles.
