Single Barrel 2018

The Champagne Single Barrel by Paul Launois tells an intimate and deeply artisanal vision of the Grand Cru from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, where every barrel becomes a unique, unrepeatable expression. Born from the meeting of art and wine envisioned by Julien and Sarah, the project invites the enthusiast to share the destiny of a single barrel, turning each cuvée into a personal story that comes to life in the cradle of the chalky soils of the Côte des Blancs.

This edition SB1807, from the 2018 harvest, expresses the character of the Hautes Voies (lieu-dit) through a Blanc de Blancs made solely from Chardonnay grapes, vinified and matured without malolactic fermentation to preserve its tension and purity. The wine rests for eleven months in a single medium-toast oak barrel from the Tonnellerie Artisanale de Champagne, a lengthy ageing that rounds out its substance. After tirage it spends over sixty months ageing on its lees, and the final dosage of 3 g/l, in an Extra Brut style, leaves the mineral backbone of the Mesnil terroir fully intact.

On the palate, Single Barrel SB1807 reveals a taut and crystalline balance, where saline freshness converses with a chalky texture of rare precision and depth. The structure, lean yet vibrant, unfolds with vertical energy and an exceptionally long persistence, marked by citrus echoes and a sharp, incisive finish that confirms the great calling of this cru.
