The Champagne Illustration by Paul Launois is a Blanc de Blancs bearing the signature of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, a Grand Cru village of the Côte des Blancs where chalk lies just a few centimetres below the surface and gives Chardonnay an unmistakable saline tension. The Illustration series recounts, edition after edition, the dialogue between this luminous soil and the wood of the barrels, a stylistic search for depth and texture that never gives up the verticality of the village.ì
This edition #6, with a 2022 harvest base at 63% and the remainder entrusted to vin de réserve, calls for vinification and maturation in fût de chêne, with spontaneous fermentation and malolactic carried out naturally, while after tirage comes an ageing on the lees of twenty-four months and the wine is finished with no final dosage, in Brut Nature style.
On tasting, Illustration #6 shows a golden hue crossed by a fine and continuous perlage, while the character reveals itself as both woody and mineral, with the toasted note of the oak intertwining with a saline echo made sharp and recognisable by the chalky soil. On the palate the structure is broad and well nourished by the ageing in wood, supported by a precise acidity that keeps drive and definition, in a dry finish of long mineral persistence.
