Le Mont de Craie 2018
The Champagne Le Mont de Craie by Pertois-Lebrun is an elegant Blanc de Blancs that captures the purity of the chalky soils of Cramant, a Grand Cru village in the Côte des Blancs where Chardonnay reaches some of its finest, brightest and most distinctive expressions. The cuvée comes from old vines over forty years of age, spread across four lieux-dits around the village, and carries the chalky imprint its very name suggests.
This edition, Vintage 2018, is shaped by vinification and maturation carried out 51% in concrete tanks and 49% in oak barrels. The concrete brings tension and clarity, and the oak adds depth and breadth. After tirage it ages for at least seven years on its lees before dégorgement, while the final dosage of 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, preserves its finesse and precision.
On tasting, Le Mont de Craie 2018 stands out for its elegance and complexity, with a very fine perlage and a nose where delicate fruity and citrus notes mingle with deeper hints of yeast and honey. On the palate it shows ripe fruit and a solid, enveloping structure, balanced by lively acidity and a marked minerality that lead into a long, harmonious finish of refined depth. Production in a limited run of 1,232 bottles.
