Avize "Le Chemin de Paradis" 2016
The Champagne Avize “Le Chemin de Paradis” 2018 by Les Frères Mignon is born as a single-parcel expression of rare finesse in the territory of Avize, a Grand Cru village emblematic of the Côte des Blancs. The lieu-dit Le Chemin de Paradis, planted in 1968 with massal selection of old Chardonnay vines, represents a viticultural heritage of great value, capable of delivering an authentic reading of the terroir thanks to chalky soils, an ideal exposure, and a natural vocation for verticality and expressive tension.
This Millésime 2018 is vinified following an artisanal, low-intervention approach: spontaneous fermentations, no fining or filtration, and a maturation of around 10 months in oak barrels on the fine lees before tirage. This is followed by an ageing on the lees of at least 8 years, a decisive stage in building aromatic depth, complexity, and expressive continuity. The low dosage, in Extra Brut style, guides the wine toward a transparent expression of both grape variety and soil.
In tasting, Avize “Le Chemin de Paradis” 2016 stands out for its refined and precise profile, with notes of ripe citrus, chalk, white flowers, and subtle iodine-like nuances. On the palate, the texture is taut and coherent, supported by vibrant acidity and a saline core that carries the wine forward with natural ease. The structure is measured yet deep, the finish long and progressive, while the overall balance reveals a Champagne of great elegance, capable of combining energy, precision, and a strong sense of place.
