Le Bateau 2017
The Champagne Le Bateau by Bonnaire is a Blanc de Blancs born exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, grown in a single and precious parcel near Cramant, a village classified as Grand Cru in the renowned CĂ´te des Blancs. This lieu-dit rests on limestone and saline soils, a memory of the ancient ocean that once covered the area, giving the wine an intense minerality and that crystalline finesse which has always distinguished the great Chardonnays from this prestigious part of Champagne.
This edition, Vintage 2017, undergoes vinification and fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with malolactic fermentation completed in keeping with the style of the Domaine. After the tirage comes an ageing on its own lees for a minimum of 60 months, lending depth and harmony. The final dosage of 2.5 g/l, in an Extra Brut style, preserves its tension and clarity, enhancing the varietal elegance of Chardonnay without masking its natural mineral expression.
On the palate, Le Bateau 2017 shows a light gold colour crossed by bright highlights, with a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose it opens fresh and citrusy, before revealing delicate chalky nuances that underline its mineral identity. The palate is creamy and intense, well balanced between drive and structure, with a taut and vertical progression. The finish is long, rich and savoury, marked by a saline persistence that faithfully reflects the excellence of the parcel and the vintage.
