Champagne Maurice Choppin
Rosé La Denrée de L’Âne
The Champagne Rosé La Denrée de L’Âne by Maurice Choppin comes from a single parcel (lieu-dit) in Damery, in the Vallée de la Marne, and is made from Meunier grapes sourced from vines planted in 1982 and farmed through massal selection. The name defines a strongly terroir-driven cuvée, crafted to express with authenticity the character of the parcel and the producer’s artisanal philosophy.
This edition, base harvest 2022, is a Rosé obtained from 52 hours of maceration, then vinified and matured in 225 L fût de chêne. Fermentations occur with indigenous yeasts and include spontaneous malolactic fermentation, while after tirage the wine ages on the lees for at least 20 months, bringing integration and depth while preserving tension and energy.
On tasting, La Denrée de L’Âne 2022 reveals intense aromas of ripe red fruits, citrus and light spicy notes, with mineral hints. On the palate it combines structure and freshness, supported by a precise savory texture and a fine mousse, leading to a long, clean and balanced finish that consistently reflects the character of the parcel.
