Rive Gauche 2022
The Champagne Rive Gauche by Bérêche & Fils is a Blanc de Noirs made entirely from Meunier grapes, which comes to life from old 50-year-old vines in the village of Mareuil-le-Port, on the Rive Gauche of the Vallée de la Marne. The grapes come from two distinct parcels, Maisoncelle (lieu-dit), on a clay-marl terroir with a northern exposure, and the steep Côte aux Châtaigniers (lieu-dit), in a mosaic of clay, marl and marine fossils that gives Meunier textural richness, tension and complexity of weave.
This edition, Vintage 2022, relies on vinification and maturation carried out in new oak barrels, with spontaneous fermentations entrusted to indigenous yeasts alone and intervention kept to a minimum, following an artisanal philosophy deeply respectful of the fruit and its terroir. After the tirage comes an ageing of at least 36 months on its own lees, while the final dosage of 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, brings out freshness, precision and salinity.
On tasting, Rive Gauche 2022 presents itself with a slightly coppery hue and a complex aromatic range, where ripe pear, mirabelle plum and candied citrus join delicate red fruits, floral accents, sweet spices and light boisé nuances. On the palate the substance is full and enveloping, sustained by a mousse of extraordinary finesse and a lively mineral tension that leads to a long, saline finish, marked by a pleasant bitter touch that heightens its freshness and energy. Production in a limited run of 4,200 bottles.
