The Champagne Les Bas Russelets 2021 by Maurice Choppin is a Blanc de Noirs crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, sourced from old vines planted in 1981 using the sélection massale technique in the eponymous lieu-dit located in Damery, at the heart of the Vallée de la Marne. Here, the vines find perfect balance on outcropping limestone soils, which impart to the wines their characteristic mineral tension and aromatic purity. Les Bas Russelets stands as one of the Domaine’s most authentic expressions — a sincere and transparent interpretation of terroir-driven Pinot Noir.

The 2021 harvest was followed by vinification and ageing in 225-liter oak barrels, where the must underwent spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, including both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, in full respect of natural processes. After tirage, the wine was aged for at least 36 months on the lees, in constant contact with its living matter, preserving energy and depth. The final dosage of just 0.5 g/L, in Extra Brut style, highlights the clarity and precision of the fruit, enhancing the genuine identity of the lieu-dit.
