Champagne J-M Sélèque
Soliste Meunier Rosé Millésime 2019
The Champagne Soliste Meunier Rosé by J-M Sélèque comes from the village of Pierry, Premier Cru from the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, where the vines of the Lieu-Dit Les Charmiers, planted in 1964 and 1971, grow on clay rich in limestone and flint, with chalk reappearing at a depth of around one and a half metres. Here the Domaine tells the story of a single variety, a single plot and a single harvest, to show how much finesse and light Meunier can express when the terroir supports it.
This edition, Vintage 2019, is vinified with destemming and an eighteen-hour low-temperature maceration of the berries, a gentle infusion that draws out colour and aromas without forcing the structure. Vinification and maturation continue for ten months in 350-litre fût de chêne, with no fining or filtration, while after tirage comes an ageing on the lees of around four years under natural cork and the final dosage of 1.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, preserves its drive and definition.
On tasting, Soliste Meunier Rosé Les Charmiers 2019 shows a bright coppery pink hue and a nose bringing together wild strawberry, redcurrant and blood orange with hints of rose hip, sweet spice and pastry left by the time in wood. On the palate the attack is vibrant and the structure proves full yet never heavy, carried by a ripe acidity and a barely perceptible tannin that outlines the fruit, closing dry and saline with a long and consistent mineral persistence. Production in a limited run of 1,624 bottles and 76 magnums.
