Les Heurtebises 2021
The Champagne Les Heurtebises by Rémy Lequeux-Mercier takes shape in Passy-sur-Marne, on the Rive Droite of the Vallée de la Marne, where the lieu-dit of the same name, planted to Meunier in 1987, unfolds with a south-facing exposure, set between the forest and the river in a natural setting of rare beauty. The clay and limestone soil with sandy layers supports a balanced ripening, while sustainable viticulture free of herbicides and insecticides preserves its vitality.
This edition, Vintage 2021, relies on vinification and maturation in fût de chêne, with indigenous yeasts alone and with no filtration or corrective intervention. After tirage comes an ageing on the lees of around 36 months, while the final dosage of 1.1 g/l, in Extra Brut style, confirms a craft-minded approach attentive to the transparency of the variety.
On tasting, Les Heurtebises 2021 reveals a taut and saline profile, with iodine hints accompanying a crystalline, perfectly defined freshness carried by a fine and continuous perlage. On the palate the texture is fine and elegant, with an aromatic breadth well balanced by a precise structure that never overflows, where the ageing in wood stays discreet and accompanies a vertical progression through to a dry, savoury finish of long mineral persistence. Production in a limited run of 1,488 bottles.
