Champagne William Saintot
Sorange 2020
The Champagne Sorange by William Saintot takes shape from the Lieu-Dit of the same name, set in the surroundings of Avenay-Val-d'Or, a Premier Cru village of the Grande Vallée de la Marne where sandy clay soils and vines planted in 1950 through selection massale preserve a long family continuity. It is a single-parcel Blanc de Noirs born of a rigorous and patient idea of viticulture, with the soils worked both beneath and between the rows, conceived to convey with fidelity the precise voice of a defined and recognisable place.
This edition, Vintage 2020, comes from Pinot Noir grapes alone and from the tête de cuvée only, with vinification and maturation carried out entirely in fût de chêne, without malolactic fermentation, without cold stabilisation and with no filtration at all. After tirage, the wine ages on the lees for at least 48 months, while the final dosage of 1 g/l gives it its Extra Brut style.
On tasting, Sorange 2020 reveals a rich and fleshy texture, supported by a broad structure that the long ageing on the lees has made compact and free of edges, with the oak perfectly integrated into a profile of rare expressive coherence. On the palate the balance plays out between the fullness of the fruit and a constant mineral tension that keeps the drinking vibrant, in a long and deep finish closing on saline echoes and a persistence of great clarity and finesse. Production in a limited run of 926 bottles.
