Cuvée des Caudalies "Le Mesnil" 2012
The Champagne Cuvée des Caudalies "Le Mesnil" by De Sousa is a Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru of rare intensity, a pure expression of the Les Chétillons lieu-dit, one of the most celebrated parcels in the entire Côte des Blancs. Farmed biodynamically on Campanian chalk, it comes from vines over fifty years old and conveys the vertical, saline and crystalline minerality of the village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
This edition, born from the outstanding 2012 harvest, undergoes vinification and fermentation in small 225-litre oak barrels with indigenous yeasts and regular bâtonnage. After tirage, it rests on lees for at least sixty months before dégorgement. A final dosage below 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, preserves its purity.
On the palate, Cuvée des Caudalies "Le Mesnil" 2012 reveals itself as taut, deep and remarkably precise. Notes of citrus, white flowers, chalk and pencil lead emerge, sustained by an iodine-driven salinity that delivers great energy. The structure is vertical, the balance impeccable, while the chalky finish unfolds into an exceptionally long, vibrant and elegant persistence.
