Les Avats Millésime 2014

The Champagne Les Avats by Hélène is a Blanc de Blancs expressing one of the most refined interpretations of the Grand Cru village of Avize, in the central part of the Côte des Blancs, through a single parcel (lieu-dit) planted with old Chardonnay vines. The deeply chalky soils of Les Avats give the wine a particularly saline and luminous texture, while Pierre Hugot’s vision seeks a precise and authentic reading of the terroir, built around essential winemaking practices and a strong focus on parcel identity.

This edition, Millésime 2014, is interpreted through spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts and maturation divided between stainless steel and wood, a choice that slowly guides the wine’s evolution while preserving its tension and mineral energy. After tirage, the wine undergoes a minimum of 10 years ageing on the lees, contributing greater depth, aromatic complexity and continuity on the palate. The final dosage of 1.75 g/l, in Extra Brut style, maintains a vertical, chalk-driven and particularly precise expression of Avize Chardonnay.

In tasting, Les Avats Millésime 2014 reveals aromas of candied citrus, lemon zest, white apple, white flowers and delicate notes of brioche and fresh almond. On the palate, the texture is taut and refined, supported by a pronounced saline character that leads into a long, elegant and remarkably pure mineral finish.
