Champagne André Clouet
Le Clos de Bouzy Magnum 2011
The Champagne Le Clos de Bouzy by André Clouet comes from a vineyard of just 0.35 hectares enclosed by tall stone walls right behind the Maison, a historic plot in the Grand Cru village of Bouzy where Pinot Noir finds one of its rarest and most distinctive expressions. Preserved for generations as a precious genetic heritage and reserved for the vintages considered truly memorable, this small parcel tells the vocation of the Montagne de Reims for a grape variety able to combine solar breadth and chalky precision.
This edition, Vintage 2011, interprets a Blanc de Noirs from Pinot Noir grapes alone, with vinification and maturation taking place in barrique with the greatest care. After the tirage, carried out exclusively in magnum format, a choice that slows down the evolution and heightens its finesse, comes a very long ageing on the lees before the dégorgement, while the very restrained final dosage, in Brut style, leaves the transparency of this wonderful terroir untouched.
On tasting, Le Clos de Bouzy 2011 appears broad and deep, with a profile alternating ripe red fruit, delicate pastry notes and candied citrus, together with those chalky hints that the limestone of Bouzy imprints on its longest-lived wines. On the palate the vinous and enveloping structure of Pinot Noir is supported by a vibrant acidity and an extremely fine bubble, in a compact and perfectly ordered progression that closes long, saline and with remarkable aromatic persistence.
