Soliste Pinot Noir Millésime 2020

The Champagne Soliste Pinot Noir Millésime by J-M Sélèque was born from the desire to let a single grape variety, a single plot and a single vintage speak for themselves, capturing the soul of the Premier Cru village of Pierry. The grapes come from the Les Gayères lieu-dit, on the upper part of the west-facing central slope, where vines dating back to 1974 grow on a cool, clay soil that gives this terroir an unmistakable personality.

This edition, Vintage 2020 , interprets Pinot Noir on its own to create a true Blanc de Noirs, with vinification and maturation carried out in 500-litre oak casks and a bottling sealed with a cork stopper that accompanies its slow and gradual evolution. This is followed by ageing on the lees for at least 42 months, while the final dosage of 1.5 g/l, in an Extra Brut style, preserves its tension, its precision and all of its natural freshness.

On tasting, Soliste Pinot Noir Millésime 2020 shows itself deep and vertical, with the ripeness of red fruit weaving into a mineral and saline thread of remarkable finesse, enhanced by delicate spicy hints. On the palate it reveals a full, vibrant structure, supported by a clear, perfectly integrated acidity that stretches the finish into a savoury and lingering persistence, closing on a profile that is at once elegant, taut and wonderfully balanced. Production in a limited run of 1,270 bottles and 100 magnums.

The story of Sélèque starts in 1965, when Henry Sélèque planted the first parcels with his step-father John Bagnost (President of the co-op Pierry). His passion for the vines led Richard, Henri and François' son to study and investigate enology and he later started to produce Champagne in 1974, increasing the annual production up to 50,000 in the 90s.

The third generation arrived in 2008, after Jean-Marc's period abroad: he joined the domaine and added his innovative and personal approach to develop Champagne. Nowadays the vineyards lie on a surface of 7.5 hectares over 7 villages in Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs: Pierry, Moussy, Epernay, Mardeuil, Dizy, Vertus and Boursault.

The vines are 60% Chardonnay, 30% Meunier and 10% Pinot Noir. The viticulture preserves the balance and values the biodiversity and the terroir, resulting in authentic Champagnes.
