Champagne Aurore Casanova
Oger Chardonnay
The Champagne Oger Chardonnay by Aurore Casanova is a Blanc de Blancs from a single plot located in the Grand Cru of Oger, in the CĂ´te des Blancs, a village lying between Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Avize where the vines grow directly on chalk. On this terroir Chardonnay ripens with broader fruit than in neighbouring Le Mesnil, while organic farming without herbicides pushes the roots deep, giving grapes that are rich yet always fresh and saline, even in the warmest years.
This edition, based on the 2023 harvest, involves spontaneous vinification and fermentation with indigenous yeasts, without fining or filtration, followed by around ten months of maturation in fût de chêne. After tirage comes ageing on the lees for around 24 months before dégorgement, while the final dosage, in Extra Brut style, further enhances its saline character.
In tasting, Oger Chardonnay shows an intense straw-yellow hue and a fine perlage, with aromas of citrus, yellow apple, white flowers and a light pastry note brought by ageing on the lees. On the palate a creamy mousse carries a broad and juicy texture, supported by lively, well-integrated acidity that keeps the wine precise, in balance between the fruit and a saline, chalky structure, through to a long, clean finish of great persistence. Produced in a limited, numbered run of only 1,889 bottles.
