Hommage à Camille "Dizy" 2022
The Coteaux Champenois Rouge Hommage à Camille by Louis Roederer comes to life in Dizy, a Premier Cru village of the Grande Vallée de la Marne, on the exact surface of the Milon lieu-dit, a micro-parcel of Pinot Noir born from massale selection and planted in 2009. Conceived as a tribute to the visionary spirit of Camille Olry-Roederer, this confidential red wine emerges from soils of silt and clay resting on a deep bank of chalk, where vines farmed biodynamically clearly translate the tension and depth of the terroir.
This edition, from the 2022 harvest, relies on a selection of Pinot Noir grapes with a 21-day whole-cluster maceration in which the stems lend vegetal and spicy freshness, while fermentations begin spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Vinification and maturation continue for 16 months in oak casks, of which 33% are new barriques that over time round out the tannic weave, for a red wine of true rarity.
On tasting, Camille Rouge 2022 shows a dark colour with garnet reflections, limpid and bright, and opens on a nose of crushed blueberry and black cherry interwoven with notes of undergrowth, blond tobacco and delicate smoky touches that reveal the chalky minerality of Dizy. On the palate the attack is soft and fleshy, with concentrated black-fruit flavours upheld by a firm weave lent by the oak, while a vibrant chalky tension draws out an energetic finish of long persistence.
