The Champagne Blanc de Blancs by Louis Roederer comes to life in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, where Chardonnay finds its purest and most refined expression. Sourced from the Lieu-Dit "La Côte" in the prestigious Grand Cru of Avize, this wine reflects the identity of a unique terroir, in which the chalky matrix lends finesse, tension and aromatic depth.
This edition, Vintage 2017, went down in history as a true test for viticulture. After an unusually warm and dry winter and spring, a frost wave between 17 and 29 April struck the vineyards hard, with as many as 12 consecutive nights of sub-zero temperatures. The grey, humid summer offered no respite, until a final stretch of August marked by almost tropical conditions — warm and wet — that encouraged the development of grey botrytis, particularly on Pinot Noir and Meunier. Faced with this challenge, the Maison carried out lightning-fast, targeted harvests, with a meticulous and rigorous grape selection unprecedented in its recent history.
On tasting, the Blanc de Blancs 2017 expresses itself with lightness and precision. Notes of almond, spring flowers and citrus introduce a fresh and luminous aromatic profile. On the palate, the concentration of ripe fruit and floral nuances melds with a vibrant mineral freshness, tracing a structure at once creamy and chalky. The effervescence is fine and measured, while the finish stretches out on a saline trail, enriched by the light touch of oak and rounded off by the characteristic freshness of the craie, the chalk of Avize.
