Zéro Dosage Millésime 2013
The Champagne Zéro Dosage Millésime by André Jacquart traces its origins from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, a Grand Cru of the Côte des Blancs where chalk lies just a few centimetres below the surface and gives Chardonnay the saline tension that made the village famous. A Blanc de Blancs born from old vines of more than fifty years, deeply rooted and tended with artisanal care, the expression of a purity that lets the terroir speak for itself without mediation.
This edition, Vintage 2013, comes from a late harvest that ran into October, with a dry and luminous autumn that in the Côte des Blancs preserved bright acidity and full ripeness in the Chardonnay grapes. Vinification and maturation take place in barrique for around nine months and, after tirage, at least eight years of ageing on the lees broaden complexity and aromatic depth before a dégorgement that leaves the wine with no final dosage, in Brut Nature style.
On tasting, Zéro Dosage Millésime 2013 appears in a bright golden yellow, crossed by a fine and persistent perlage that carries a profile of ripe citrus, white fruit, toasted hazelnut and a chalky note of great clarity. On the palate the long time spent on the lees builds a broad, creamy material that the acidity keeps taut and vertical, with a balance of rare precision between breadth and tension that carries on into a long, saline and finely mineral finish.
