Champagne Perrier-Jouët
Blanc de Blancs Belle Èpoque 2014
The Champagne Belle Époque Blanc de Blancs by Perrier-Jouët is the rarest jewel of the collection, the quintessence of Chardonnay in the Maison's style, created in 1993 and launched to celebrate the new millennium. Faithful to the rigorous principles of its founders, the Maison declares a Vintage only in the years with the finest conditions, a choice that makes every Belle Époque harvest a true rarity and this Blanc de Blancs the most precious of all, the fruit of a strictly limited production. The grapes come from the Côte des Blancs, from the historic Grand Cru parcels of Cramant, owned by the Maison for around two centuries, facing south east on mid-slope over soils of pure chalk and complemented in the most recent vintages by the Grand Cru of Avize and Chouilly, an authentic expression of the finesse and elegance that define its style.
This edition, Vintage 2014, is born from a single harvest, a single grape variety and a single terroir, in a work of great precision. Vinification takes place at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and continues with malolactic fermentation. After the tirage comes a long ageing on the lees of around 8 years, while the final dosage, in the Brut style, allows the purity of the fruit to emerge and completes the profile with balance, heightening the freshness and minerality of this Champagne.
On tasting, Belle Époque Blanc de Blancs 2014 stands out for its finesse, refinement and minerality rather than power, showing a very pale gold colour, pure and luminous, enlivened by a perlage of great finesse. On the nose it opens rich and delicate at the same time, with floral notes of white flowers and magnolia in particular, interwoven with hints of white-fleshed fruit and subtle honeyed nuances. On the palate the purity and silky weave of the Chardonnay meet a velvety, enveloping texture, enlivened by a touch of white pepper and delightful notes of lemon meringue pie, leading to a finish of lasting elegance, confirming the floral and refined style that has always characterised the Maison.
