La Closerie Les Béguines

The Champagne La Closerie Les Béguines from Domaine La Closerie is an iconic cuvée, born from a single two-hectare plot near Gueux, where Jérôme Prévost cultivates an intricate mosaic of parcels rooted in sandy soils with high mineral energy. The vineyard, planted on Thanetian calcareous sands at about 120 meters of altitude, is composed of 94% Meunier, with small percentages of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay from massal selection. A varietal diversity that reflects the heterogeneity of the site and the pursuit of complete expressive fidelity to the terroir.

This edition, vintage 2020, follows an artisanal approach based on minimal intervention. Spontaneous fermentation is entrusted to indigenous yeasts without any oenological correction, while maturation continues for 10 months in barrels of different capacities (225, 228, 400, 500 and 600 liters), in contact with whole lees to develop structure and complexity. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, and every stage – from maturation to bottling – is carried out entirely by hand, without the use of machinery or electricity, in line with Jérôme’s artisanal philosophy. The final dosage, below 3 g/l in Extra Brut style, preserves tension, precision and expressive authenticity.

In tasting, Les Béguines reveals a mineral purity wrapped in an elegant and incisive texture. The aromatic profile, complex and layered, moves between fruity vibrations, floral accents and light oxidative nuances, expressing a deep connection to the vineyard and to Prévost’s stylistic imprint. On the palate it shows balance, acidic energy, breadth and a saline persistence of remarkable finesse, fully embodying the vision that unites tradition, research and respect for the environment.
