Champagne Geoffroy
Les Houtrants Complantés
The Champagne Les Houtrants Complantés by Geoffroy is a unique and visionary cuvée, born from a single lieu-dit set on the slopes of Cumières, planted in 2005 with the aim of reviving the ancient practice of varietal co-plantation. In this plot, sun-exposed and marked by a soil of clay and loam with fragments of flint, three classic Champagne grape varieties live together in harmony, Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay, alongside two cépages oubliés, the Petit Meslier and the Arbane. A choice that reflects the Geoffroy family's wish to offer an authentic, unmediated portrait of the terroir.
This edition involves a blend of harvests ranging from 2008 to 2015, partly kept in magnum at low pressure. In the cellar the approach is as natural as possible, with indigenous yeasts, no oak, no fining or filtration and no malolactic fermentation, in order to preserve the original purity of the grapes. The prise de mousse too takes place with a cork stopper, following an ancient and now rare technique. After the tirage comes an ageing on its own lees for a minimum of 7 years, and the whole is completed without final dosage, in a Brut Nature style.
On the palate, Les Houtrants Complantés appears to the eye with a straw-yellow hue and golden highlights and a lively, bright effervescence. The nose is delicate and airy, with white flowers, citrus and white-fleshed fruit. On the palate it surprises with its precision and verticality, with notes of bitter almond, vanilla biscuit, sponge cake and even evocative hints of fireside smoke, with intimate and nostalgic echoes. It is pure, energetic and well-defined, with a mineral and bitter finish that stretches out with no concessions, in a Champagne of place and memory able to tell the voice of a single site in a radical and authentic way. Production in a limited run of 1,142 bottles.
