Champagne J-M Sélèque
Solessence
The Champagne Solessence by J-M Sélèque comes mainly from vineyards in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, between Pierry, Moussy and Épernay itself, then reaching out to Mardeuil, Boursault and Dizy in the Vallée de la Marne and to Vertus in the Côte des Blancs, on soils of clay, flint and limestone resting on Campanian chalk at varying depths. It is the most universal expression of a plot-driven philosophy that refuses any standardisation, seeking in each village the nuance able to deliver a crystalline and luminous style.
This edition, from the 2022 harvest, brings together 50% Chardonnay, 40% Meunier and 10% Pinot Noir grapes, with half of the blend entrusted to the réserve perpétuelle. Vinification and maturation are carried out over ten months in stainless steel vats at 60% and in fût de chêne at 40%, with no fining or filtration. After tirage comes an ageing on the lees of at least 24 months, while the final dosage of 1.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, preserves its tension and clarity.
On tasting, Solessence shows a bright golden hue crossed by a fine and persistent perlage, while the nose alternates citrus, pear and white flowers with hints of almond, pastry and a chalky note that defines its outline. On the palate balance remains the key, with a slender frame well nourished by the ageing, a ripe acidity that supports without stiffening and a saline finish of appreciable mineral persistence.
