Les Coupés "Franc de pied" 2020
The Champagne Les Coupés "Franc de Pied" 2020 by Nicolas Maillart originates from a rare Pinot Noir vineyard planted in 1973 on its own roots in the Lieu-Dit Les Coupés, located in Écueil, a Premier Cru village. This unique parcel, with its sandy soil, has protected the vines from phylloxera, allowing ungrafted cultivation — an audacious and now almost extinct viticultural choice. This Champagne is produced exclusively in the finest vintages, with grapes harvested at full ripeness.
Vinification takes place entirely in oak barrels, where the wine ferments for over six months without undergoing malolactic fermentation, preserving its tension and freshness. After tirage, it ages for at least three years on its lees. The absence of dosage defines an Extra Brut style, a pure expression of the terroir’s character.
On the palate, Les Coupés "Franc de Pied" 2020 reveals a clean, refined, and elegant profile, marked by a distinct salinity that enhances its personality. The taste is structured and persistent, combining freshness and precision with a complex, tense, and strikingly long finish. Production is extremely limited, with only 2,000 bottles released.
