Champagne Jean Josselin
Contexture R.22
The Champagne Contexture by Jean Josselin takes shape from the meeting of three plots in Gyé-sur-Seine, Comelle Navier (lieu-dit), Haut de Viller (lieu-dit) and Courbenne (lieu-dit), which in the southern Côte des Bar draw together the fullest portrait of this corner of the Barséquanais. The vines, farmed through a sustainable viticulture, rest on clay-limestone soils lying above layers of Kimmeridgian marl and limestone, a geological matrix that signs the saline minerality typical of the area.
This edition, from the 2022 harvest, shows a predominance of Chardonnay grapes at 50%, joined by Pinot Noir at 30% and Meunier at 20%, with a vinification carried out separately for each plot in stainless steel tanks, malolactic fermentation completed and no recourse to fining or filtration. After tirage comes an ageing on the lees of at least twenty-four months, while the final dosage of 2.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, brings out its freshness and expressive precision.
On tasting, Contexture shows an elegant golden yellow and a fine, creamy mousse, while the bouquet unfolds between mineral notes, spicy touches and delicate white flowers, with hints of red fruits that widen its aromatic range and speak of its make-up. On the palate it opens with softness and roundness, supported by a solid structure and a long, broad-breathing stretch that confirms the depth and stylistic coherence of this cuvée.
