Ambonnay Rouge "Cuvée des Grands Côtés" 2022
The Côteaux Champenois Rouge "Cuvée des Grands Côtés" by Egly-Ouriet is a wine still red of rare personality, born entirely from Pinot Noir of an old vineyard more than sixty years of age, set beneath the lieu-dit Les Crayères, in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, in the Montagne de Reims. The vineyard's distinctive position, a gentle amphitheatre-shaped hollow, together with the age of the vines and the very low yields, gives life to a unique expression in a land celebrated for its still wines well before the méthode champenoise became the region's defining signature.
This edition, from the 2022 harvest, takes shape through a vinification and a slow maturation in fût de chêne lasting around twenty-two months, an ageing in wood conceived to accompany the wine towards its full expression without ever masking the fruit. Bottling then takes place by hand and without any filtration, so as to preserve its material intact.
On the palate, the Ambonnay Rouge 2022 shows a deep and multifaceted profile, in which the power of Ambonnay's Pinot Noir intertwines with an aromatic complexity of great finesse and a tension that reveals its champenoise soul. It appears full, vertical and perfectly balanced, supported by dense, velvety tannins, by a vibrant freshness and by a long, mineral persistence that herald its remarkable prospect of evolution over time. The overall production amounts to 3,148 bottles.
