Champagne Doyard
Clos de l'Abbaye 2019
The Champagne Clos de l’Abbaye 2019 by Doyard is a rare Blanc de Blancs from a single parcel of Chardonnay, planted in 1956 in the Premier Cru village of Vertus, in the Côte des Blancs. This tiny clos of just half a hectare, completely isolated, rises on chalky soils that impart remarkable precocity and pure expression to the wine.
Viticulture follows a rigorously environmentally friendly approach: no chemical treatments, deliberately low yields (35–40 hl/ha), and meticulous winemaking. Only the first pressing, the noblest fraction of the must, is aged in oak without malolactic fermentation in order to preserve freshness, tension, and precision. After tirage, the wine matures for at least 48 months on the lees, completed by a dosage of less than 2 g/l in Extra Brut style.
On the palate, Clos de l’Abbaye 2019 reveals tension and elegance, with aromas of ripe citrus, white flowers, and fine herbs, enriched by hints of fresh almond, hazelnut, and a chalky touch. The palate shows a silky yet vibrant texture, where precision and depth intertwine with marked minerality, leading to a long, saline, and crystalline finish that faithfully reflects the authentic soul of the terroir of Vertus.
Produced exclusively in outstanding vintages, this edition is limited to 1,565 bottles and 150 magnums.
