Champagne Extra Brut
Cuvée du Clos Notre Dame 2014

The Champagne Cuvée du Clos Notre Dame represents the pinnacle of Veuve Fourny & Fils’s savoir-faire, the rare and precious expression of a Clos of just 0.29 hectares in the Premier Cru of Vertus, at the southern tip of the Côte des Blancs. Farmed organically on east-facing chalk soils, this old vineyard of more than sixty years gives rise to a cuvée of remarkable authenticity and finesse, translating with purity the identity of a single site and the depth of roots that draw directly from the limestone bedrock.

This edition, Vintage 2015, comes from a year marked by a hot and particularly dry summer, eased by late August rains, which yielded healthy, ripe and concentrated grapes, ideal for a Blanc de Blancs of great richness and structure. Vinification and fermentation take place in oak barrels without malolactic fermentation, a choice that preserves the natural tension of the Chardonnay and enhances its freshness, while after tirage the wine ages on its lees for nine years before dégorgement. The final dosage of 3 g/l, in the Extra Brut style, offers a pure and essential reading of the terroir, in perfect harmony with the character of the vineyard.

On tasting, Cuvée du Clos Notre Dame 2015 shows intensity and elegance, with aromas of white flowers, candied citrus and dried fruit, joined by refined mineral touches that gradually emerge as it opens. On the palate it is deep, saline and vibrant, carried by a creamy texture and a flawless balance between richness and tension, leading to a long, clean finish of remarkable persistence. Production in a limited run of 2,478 bottles.
