Champagne André Jacquart
Solera
The Champagne Solera by André Jacquart takes shape in Vertus, a Premier Cru at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs, where chalky soils run through with clay veins give Chardonnay a profile that is at once broad and mineral. The idea guiding this Blanc de Blancs is that of time building up in layers, with a réserve perpétuelle in which every harvest joins the ones before it and preserves their memory, lending continuity and depth to the character of the cuvée.
This edition, drawing on the Réserve Perpétuelle with years ranging from 2008 to 2015, relies on a careful vinification and maturation carried out partly in oak casks and completed in stainless steel tanks, with malolactic fermentation not taking place in order to preserve freshness and tension. After tirage comes an ageing on the lees of at least six years and a final dosage below 2 g/l, in Extra Brut style, which keeps the wine dry and preserves its mineral definition.
On tasting, Solera shows a pale golden yellow accompanied by a fine and persistent perlage, while the nose opens on delicate floral notes that gradually give way to hints of white fruit and a chalky background. On the palate the structure appears elegant and well drawn, with a creamy mousse wrapping a lively minerality supported by an ever-clear acidity, in a refined finish where the saline note lengthens its persistence. Production in a limited run of 3,637 bottles.
