Champagne Veuve Clicquot
La Grande Dame Rosé 2018
The Champagne La Grande Dame Rosé by Veuve Clicquot embodies the highest tribute to Madame Clicquot, an iconic woman and source of inspiration to whom this Rosé cuvée has been dedicated since its creation in 1962. A radiant expression of stately elegance, it comes from the meeting between the historic and precious Grands Crus of the Maison and the mastery of the Chef de Caves, in a dialogue between power and finesse led by the legendary Pinot Noir, which makes it one of the noblest and most recognisable interpretations in all of Champagne.
This edition, the eleventh in the history of the cuvée, bears the signature of the 2018 Vintage, a year marked by a rainy winter followed by a spring and summer with well above-average sunshine, which brought grapes in excellent condition to the cellar at harvest. The blend shows a clear predominance of Pinot Noir grapes at 90%, of which 13% is added as vin rouge from the Clos Colin in Bouzy, completed by 10% Chardonnay, all sourced exclusively from the historic Grands Crus of the Maison. Vinification and fermentation take place in stainless steel, and after tirage the wine undergoes extended ageing on the lees for at least six years, while the final dosage of 6 g/l, in Brut style, supports the wine with perfect restraint and preserves its precision and elegance.
On tasting, La Grande Dame Rosé 2018 opens on the nose with floral notes of violet and rose, alongside fresh fruits such as blackcurrant, strawberry, raspberry and cherry, and spicy hints of Sichuan pepper and liquorice. On the palate the attack is lively and bright, driven by notes of mandarin, blood orange and grapefruit zest, which then give way to cherry and a luscious fruitiness reminiscent of strawberry and raspberry coulis. On the finish, pepper, cinnamon and liquorice return, freshened by touches of mint and thyme. The structure is sleek and well defined, with a perfect balance between freshness and richness of fruit, and it closes with a long, refined persistence.
