Rare Rosé Millésime 2014

Rare Champagne preserves in every Millésime a heritage dating back to 1885, when for the centenary of the cuvée presented by Piper-Heidsieck to Marie Antoinette the jeweller Pierre-Karl Fabergé envisioned an enamel decoration that, too fragile for the crystal, lives on today in the foil that forms its habillage. From that vintage springs a rigorous selection that in more than forty years has declared only fourteen vintages, each one born of an atypical year, of the expertise of the Chef de caves and of the time of rest.

This edition in its Rosé version, Millésime 2014, comes from a contrasting climatic cycle, with a particularly mild and damp autumn and winter followed by a dry March and April and by a warm, sunny June interrupted only by a few showers. An excessively rainy and cool July and August finally give way to a sunny and very dry September, ideal conditions that, after an unsettled summer, herald a harvest of great quality and the full ripeness of its grapes.

In tasting, Rare Champagne Rosé 2014 stands out for its dense coppery pink-gold colour and delicate bubbles, opening an exuberant nose of red and black fruits such as wild strawberry and blackberry, with blood orange that evolves towards musk, chocolate, violet and guava, closing on star anise, pepper and kirsch. On the palate the entry is lively and exuberant, among pomegranate, morello cherry and pastry cream, through to a finish of powerful, explosive and vinous tension, where chocolate and pink pepper return in an extraordinary length of positive bitterness.
