Champagne Rousseaux-Batteux
Rosé "Les Champs Brûlés" 2021
The Champagne Rosé Les Champs Brûlés by Rousseaux-Batteux expresses all the intensity of the Grand Cru of Verzy, on the northern coteaux of the Montagne de Reims. This rare Rosé de Saignée comes from the Pinot Noir vines of the lieu-dit Les Champs Brûlés, planted in 1964 on just 0.15 hectares. They are farmed with a respectful, artisanal approach, with cover cropping and soil work, to preserve the vineyard’s natural balance and bring out the truest expression of the terroir.
This edition, Vintage 2021, starts with grapes picked at full ripeness, crushed and destemmed before 24 hours of cold maceration on the skins, which gives the must its natural colour. Vinification and maturation take place over 10 months in oak barriques. The wine is then bottled without filtration or cold stabilisation to keep its natural integrity intact, which can leave a light deposit that does not affect its quality. After tirage, it ages on the lees for 36 months before dégorgement. A final dosage of less than 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, heightens its purity and tension.
On tasting, Les Champs Brûlés 2021 shows an intense and refined aromatic profile, with notes of ripe red fruit, pomegranate and delicate spices, enriched by elegant floral hints. On the palate it is broad and structured, supported by vibrant freshness and a subtle mineral texture in a harmonious balance, leading to a long and persistent finish. Production in a limited, numbered run of 920 bottles.
