Champagne Rousseaux-Batteux
Les Chauffours 2021
The Champagne Les Chauffours by Rousseaux-Batteux reveals the brightest side of the Grand Cru of Verzenay, on the northern coteaux of the Montagne de Reims. This rare and authentic Blanc de Noirs comes from the Pinot Noir vines of the lieu-dit Les Chauffours. There are two parcels, planted in 1972 and 1973, covering just 0.24 hectares in total. They are farmed with a respectful, artisanal approach, with natural cover cropping and soil work by draught horse, so that the terroir can fully speak for itself.
This edition, Vintage 2021, is vinified and fermented in fût de chêne, where the wine also matures. It is then bottled without filtration or cold stabilisation to keep its natural integrity intact. After tirage, it rests on the lees for at least 36 months before dégorgement. It is released with no final dosage, in Brut Nature style, to highlight the purity and expressiveness of Pinot Noir.
On tasting, Les Chauffours 2021 stands out for an intense, vertical profile, with notes of small red berries, citrus and spicy touches that shape its character. On the palate it shows great precision, combining freshness, substance and a marked mineral signature in a taut, harmonious balance, leading to a long and persistent finish. Production in a limited, numbered run of 950 bottles.
